How do artists get a residency @theBarn?

We don’t like applications. So we don’t do them.

We’re sure your artist statement is wonderful. We don’t need to read it.

Or for you to rewrite it with some specific guidelines when you’ve probably already spent a lot of time crafting the perfect version.

We believe in Community and Collaboration.

(This is a video of our 1st year of residencies. What a glorious time.)

Each year T4tP picks a couple of artists that we’ve worked with previously.

There’s no fees. No opaque judgements behind closed doors.

We just talk to people we’re working with about it. Who needs this? Who would really benefit from it?

Sometimes collaborators approach us, and sometimes we start the conversation.

But we mostly get our artists from companies that we partner with:

Naked Angels, LatinX Playwright’s Circle, Leviathan, National Queer Theater, and American Theatre Group: Play Lab.

Each year, we ask them for artists; they send us artists. We don’t question who they send, because we’ve vetted the companies we partner with already.

We also ask former artists@theBarn to nominate other artists.

If you want to be an artist@theBarn, come to one of our shows, readings, or workshops. Get to know us. If you like what we’re doing, then work with us.

Or get to know one of the companies we partner with and talk to them about a residency.

Or get to know one of our former artists@theBarn. They’re out there doing amazing work and you probably should know them.

Or go find some other awesome theater company and tell them that they should partner with us. We’d love to get to know them.

Be a part of our ever growing community and collaborate with the people in it.

That will tell us a lot more about who you are than any sort of artist statement.

We hope to meet you soon.
